Billboard in Syracuse Tells Katko: Repeal the Trump Tax
“TELL JOHN KATKO TO REPEAL THE TRUMPTAX”
SPEAK OUT CNY BILLBOARD REMINDS SYRACUSE COMMUTERS KATKO VOTED TO RAISE THEIR TAXES
SYRACUSE — A new billboard unveiled this week by Speak Out Central New York will remind Central New Yorkers through the busy summer season that Congressman John Katko voted to pass the TrumpTax, and with it, significant tax hikes for working families (and billions in tax breaks for the rich).
The billboard, which Syracuse commuters and visitors will see prominently at I-690 and 1225 State Fair Blvd., reads:
“John Katko voted to give big tax breaks to the rich and raise taxes on working people. Tell John Katko to repeal the TrumpTax.”
The billboard, which will be up in the district through July 22, is the latest in Speak Out Central New York’s ongoing paid media campaign – including television and digital advertising – to show Central New Yorkers how Katko has consistently voted against their best interests. While Katko attends$30,000 per plate fundraisers with Vice President Pence, visitors and residents in the district will be reminded that Katko’s vote was about shoring up his partisan credibility, and not helping his own constituents.
Katko continues to lie to voters by insisting the Republican tax scam is raising worker wages, even as corporations are spending 69 times as much buying back stock to reward rich executives and shareholders as they’re spending on worker raises or bonuses. Just 4.3 percent of American workers have gotten raises or bonuses as a result of the tax scam, while corporations rake in billions in savings.
The TrumpTax will raise New Yorkers’ taxes by $2.4 billion in 2019 alone, and 2.4 million New Yorkers won’t get a tax cut at all. Meanwhile, more than 80 percent of the tax scam’s benefits will flow to the richest one percent of the country. In New York, the average tax break for the richest one percent will be $29,890 – more than half the median income in Katko’s district.
