“WHAT WAS HE THINKING WHEN HE VOTED FOR THIS TAX CUT”

SPEAK OUT CENTRAL NEW YORK LAUNCHES NEW TV AD QUESTIONING JOHN KATKO’S TRUMPTAX VOTE

Six-Figure Ad Buy Features Syracuse Couple Asking “What Was Katko Thinking?”

SYRACUSE – Speak Out Central New York is launching a new television ad that hammers home the impact of Congressman John Katko’s vote in favor of the TrumpTax, emphasizing that the vast majority of the bill’s tax breaks go to the richest fraction of the country.

The ad features a retired Central New York couple, who question how Katko could possibly justify passing such a lopsided tax break for the wealthy:

“Most of the benefits from this Trump tax plan that Katko voted for are going to go to the top 1 percent. But the rest of us? We’re gonna end up paying more taxes. He’s voted for this tax cut, knowing of course what it would do to the rest of the people in the country. What was he thinking when he voted for this tax cut?”

The buy, which includes region-wide television placements and digital pre-roll ads, is only the first of Speak Out Central New York’s planned months-long media campaign to remind Central New Yorkers that Katko supported the TrumpTax, despite knowing it would send 81 percent of its benefits to just 1 percent of the country.

The tax plan is expected to hike New Yorkers’ taxes by $2.4 billion in 2019 alone, and the included repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate is expected to raise premiums dramatically – some insurers are already requesting double-digit premium hikes for 2019. Donald Trump’s own former Health & Human Services Secretary Tom Price admitted this month that the repeal of the individual mandate will significantly drive up insurance premiums for every Americans purchasing coverage under the ACA marketplaces.
